[Watch] – Glasser Performs “Mirrorage” On Jimmy Fallon

Owly Images

The winner of my much-coveted number three album of the year award (2010) was this young lady below; Glasser.

Having done the rounds a lot last year she never made a an American TV performance and now she’s gone and fixed that by getting all weird and shit on Jimmy Fallon.  I’m not sure what kinda theme she was shooting for here but it’s sort of like half Oriental, half African, and three quarters Disney.  It’s whatevs, she pulls of a good performance of one of the best songs from the album, but it’s not THE best song….that award goes to “Apply”……or maybe “Treasury Of We”….or maybe “Tremel”.

Either way, you can see “Mirrorage” below as well as bonus performance of “Clamour”.  You might notice all those funky looking squares floating around the stage, and if you’re unaware as to what the fuck they are, they’re called QR Codes.  Some dude in Japan invented them back in the early-to-mid 90′s but with the popularity of smartphones in the last few years they’ve really taken off.   These days with your camera phone you take a pic of the QR code and you’re generally “rewarded” with something, and in this case if you scan that giant picture above with your smartphone you’ll get some cool and trippy goodies.

I sat there for about 10 minutes on my iPhone just zooming in and out, tripping over my balls and whatnot.  Give it a go.

I adore this song but I gotta admit disappointment in her performance…. sounds like she was really having trouble with singing live, lots of unsteady, out-of-tune, or broken notes – which makes me wonder if she messes around with her vocals when she records because on the album her voice is lovely and pitch-perfect. Maybe she was nervous?

Fascinated by the way they’ve rigged up the band’s instruments to produce synthesized sounds though – really cool.

Yeah I know what you mean about some of the bum notes, but apparently her live performances are amazing so maybe it was just nerves.
