[Watch] New Video By Mogwai – “Mexican Grand Prix”

Some bands become so inextricably linked with their city that it’s hard to think of one without the other. For instance, The Strokes = New York, Pulp = Sheffield and Mogwai definitely = Glasgow. Despite being a largely instrumental band, they have managed to reference their home city and its culture in their song titles, album art and videos remarkably often. To name but a few examples, there is “George Square Thatcher Death Party”, “Glasgow Mega-Snake”, “Kappa”, “Young Team”, the album art pictured above, and so on.

Their new video for “Mexican Grand Prix” serves as a concentrated shot of Glasgow injected straight into the brain stem. It’s a quickfire trip through Glasgow’s people, buildings, underpasses, wastelands and metros, and is absolutely hypnotic. It helps of course that the song itself is a particularly entrancing take on the motorik sound made famous by Neu!. You can watch the video below and Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will is out now.
