While the Pigeon Detectives have been quiet over the last few years, they have popped back on the scene with a new single and video called “Done In Secret.” This is the first single off of their upcoming album, “Up, Guards And At ‘Em!’” – which is set to be released on April 4th.
Despite their fame in the U.K., their breakthrough in the U.S. has been much slower. But with this new light and fun song, I suspect that The Pigeon Detectives will be circling the blogs soon enough. Their not-so-interesting name isn’t one that the band mulled over for hours and hours, in an attempt to perfectly encapsulate the group’s essence…it was picked for them, and it just kind of stuck. Which to some might be blasphemous to the music world, but I kind of find it hilarious, along with the name itself. The Pigeon Detectives. Just picture it.
The new track is reminiscent of The Cure, taking you back to those post-punk days of tight jeans, crazy hair, whiny and strained vocals, and poppy lyrics. This English band has been together since 2002 and have extensively toured the country, but they have recently gone through somewhat of a transformation, as well as changing locations by recording this track in the U.S. Don’t fret; they have stayed true to their English roots, keeping with the British pop vibe, and adding a new twist on an old sound. The tune is so damn catchy that you can’t help but tap your foot and dance around like a fool.
