“Provincial” is an album firmly rooted in Manitoba, Canada, John K. Samson’s home. The album follows him and his observations about the countryside and nearby residents. Don’t let Samson’s past fool you: there’s very little punk here, but this album of stories is very much worth hearing.

TweetShare What is it about a cold night and a solid breeze that makes a song like “Worried Blues” feel absolutely right. The song sounds great, and that’s not changing with the seasons, but why does fall cause a song with such hints of sadness to settle within and make us think “Yeah…I dig that” [...]

TweetShare This post is a “QuickPick”. QuickPicks are my attempt at getting all of the music that’s sent to me that I like (or just music I like but have no words for because it’s so awesome!), out into the dubya dots, picked quickly. Less for you to read, more for you to hear. Artist: [...]

TweetShare Band Of Horses guitarist Tyler Ramsey releases what could very well be his best song yet with “The Nightbird”. The Lyrics are haunting with the heaviness of life and coming to grips with those things that weigh us down coupled with the determination of releasing them. Sure as a metaphor anyone could listen to [...]

TweetShare Neko Case debuted a new song, “Calling Cards” in Charlottesville, VA. I’ve always been in love with Neko Case’s voice, and since her last album “Middle Cyclone,” we haven’t hear that much in new material. I’m pleased to hear “Calling Cards” is classic Neko, and honestly, Neko is the only one that can sing “Blah, blah, [...]

TweetShare The Wooden Birds are a reincarnation of a number of different acts – Western Keys, American Analog Set, and Matt Pond PA - coming together to create an organic, unique and folk sound. This quartet - Andrew Kenny, Leslie Sisson, Sean Haskins and Matt Pond – comes to us from Austin, TX. Definitely not a stranger when it [...]

TweetShare Buy the album from Amazon – Vinyl / MP3 / CD There’s something in my genes that loves percussion at a deep and primal level. I can’t explain it much further than this: I remember my dad drumming along on the steering wheel to anything he was listening to. He never sang or hummed [...]

TweetShare Fink, the moniker of Brisol-raised, Brighton-based Fin Greenall, is Ninja Tunes‘ resident singer-songwriter or “guy-with-a-guitar-who-sings-too.” It might seem to be a bit of a dubious position, given the label’s tendency to output more eclectic acts ranging from Amon Tobin to Roots Manuva, but his chilled-out, bluesy vibe has fit well into the more relaxed [...]
