“Provincial” is an album firmly rooted in Manitoba, Canada, John K. Samson’s home. The album follows him and his observations about the countryside and nearby residents. Don’t let Samson’s past fool you: there’s very little punk here, but this album of stories is very much worth hearing.

When you get something truly fresh and original, you know instantaneously. “A Hammer To The Camera Lens” is exactly that.

Snow Patrol aren’t quite under the spotlight anymore, but they’re not changing a thing. “Fallen Empires” is exactly what you’d expect it to be: upbeat radio-friendly songs, beautiful (but occasionally boring) ballads, and, above all, an hour of perfectly distilled Snow Patrol.

Achieving musical alchemy, Morning Teleportation successfully combine more genres than I can count, creating fabulous journeys of song. They have taken the rulebook of song writing and thrown it out the window. They’re doing things their way.

Dry The River have become a regular name in the “bands to watch” slots that appear in the media around this time of year, and their single “No Rest” has over half a million views on YouTube – not bad for a band who’s first official EP, “Weights & Measures”, was only released just over a month ago.

This group has managed something I didn’t think possible, pull off both an effortlessly smooth Motown number and a rocking song that has a hook Led Zeppelin would be proud of, on the same album!

TweetShare Yesterday evening DOM, the guys who brought us the party summer hit of 2010 “Living In America” dropped two new tracks. “Crazy Girl” has been played live numerous times before and you might’ve seen some of the live versions of it kicking around online, but this time we have the studio version. With a [...]

TweetShare What do you get when you take a man back from driving round America in an old beat-up Chevy writing songs, a man bored of Glasgow and recently moved to Amsterdam, and a couple of good mates? … Drawing a blank? The answer is Sur Nilsson. This four piece’s origins may sound a bit [...]

TweetShare Dum Dum Girls’s new album “Only In Dreams” is being released next week and in anticipation of the release their label Sub Pop have put a stream of the album. The girls have already managed to enthrall us with the 2 or 3 cuts from the album we’ve heard already like “Bedroom Eyes”, and [...]

TweetShare What are the chances? Exactly one year to the day, hell, I’m gonna schedule this for the exact same time, but one year ago to the day and minute I posted an Introduction piece on Colleen Green and here we are, a year later and she’s dropped the first official track since then. Taken from her [...]

TweetShare While the notion of nostalgic-minded pop music is hardly news these days, there’s just something about hearing the voice of Kevin Arnold that makes me swoon. The beginning of both tracks on Oregon Bike Trails’ debut release earlier this summer feature the words of awkward, fictional, high schooler Kevin Arnold and his secret crush [...]

TweetShare Six months ago one of my favourite albums of the year was given an iTunes bonus disc release; Yuck‘s self-titled debut album. On that bonus version were a couple of tracks not on the regular version, and although it’s been out for six months or so today they decided to give us one of said new [...]

TweetShare Mind The Gap is becoming one my new favorite bands. Their tracks are definitely categorized as “easy listening” in my iTunes library and seem to fit any mood I’m in. Their latest single, “Once You Leave” combines what I’ve come to love – interesting melodies, steady and foot-tapping beats, and light and airy vocals. [...]
