This post is a “QuickPick”. QuickPicks are my attempt at getting all of the music that’s sent to me that I like (or just music I like but have no words for because it’s so awesome), out into the dubya dots. Any time I get sent music that I like I “star” it in Gmail [...]

Beyonce has been at the top of the pyramid ever since her days in Destiny’s Child. If you don’t love Beyonce, you obviously don’t like much pop music, and probably aren’t reading this. The rest of us, from hardcore Beyonce fiends who squealed in delight when she debuted “1+1″ on American Idol’s season finale, to [...]

Ladytron has just released another new single from their upcoming album, “Gravity the Seducer”, called “Ambulances.” The track definitely won’t disappoint Ladytron’s cult-like followers. The track is dramatic with airy and eerie lead vocals, a sick synthesized loop that plays throughout, and choir-like back-up vocals sung by Mira Aroyo. Ending with an intense build up that plateaus, [...]

Something about summer always gets me thinking about songs that sound like summer, but I’m not the only one. Earlier today Tyler the Creator dropped his Summer Camp Mix on the Odd Future web site. The mix is full of tunes that just feel like heat rays beating down on you while you’re chilling on your backyard patio [...]

Buy the album from Amazon – Vinyl | MP3 | CD Dan Boeckner has grown increasingly political in his outings with Handsome Furs, the dance-rock duo he formed with his wife after achieving success with Wolf Parade. While the group’s first album, “Plague Park”, was a series of sparsely-arranged tales of loss and restlessness, they [...]

Just over a year ago I called DOM‘s “Living In America” as the summer jam of 2010, much like The Verve’s “Bitter Sweet Symphony” back in 1997, but it didn’t quite turn out like that. Instead it was played by myself endlessly, and a bunch of other people but never quite attaining that BSS height [...]

One thing that always amazes me about music is how new stuff gets written every day. With a handful of notes, artists still manage to create new songs and tunes and only occasionally do you hear something and think, “That sounds like…”. Some artists look beyond the usual music scale and find other ways to [...]

It’s been over a year since Elizabeth Harper, more commonly-known as Class Actress, released her debut EP “Journal Of Ardency” to much acclaim, followed by a few remixes and some live shows but that was it. We heard nary a peep of new music from her until now with the imminent release (Oct 18th) of [...]

It’s important to point out that the following are my impressions of the album and of Darragh Nolan’s work through his band, Sacred Animals. While there is no permanent guideline nor correct interpretation of his music, I believe the lyrical ambiguity really only adds to the charm of his music– that said, I hope to [...]

Growing up in the 80′s I had a steady stream of electro synth pop bands more than happy to release tracks for me to attempt the robot dance to. Greats like OMD, Kraftwerk, Gary Numan and Ultravox, to name but a few, introduced a whole generation to electronic music played via keyboards and drum machines. [...]
