Achieving musical alchemy, Morning Teleportation successfully combine more genres than I can count, creating fabulous journeys of song. They have taken the rulebook of song writing and thrown it out the window. They’re doing things their way.

The songs on “Getting Down From the Trees” are polished to perfection; Polock manage to successfully straddle the fine line between overproduction and an underground sound, with just the right amount of sugar.

Ontario’s The Soirée dropped their “Marathons” EP last month, it is a must have for anyone who likes solid free music. “Animals,” the first single from it brings about a new pop sensibility to a band that previously seemed to have more focus on indie hooks and acoustic integrity. This song reminds me immensely of [...]

If someone told me that southern California band News Of The Fire is made up of teenagers and had only been together for five months before recording their first proper work, the “Motions And Hints” EP released in January of this year, I’d have to ask if they took me for a fool. There is [...]

Buy the album: Amazon | iTunes | Sub Pop Mister Heavenly, a self-described “doom-wop” act, have set high expectations for themselves, capping off their supergroup status with a dreamboat name. Admittedly, it’s hard to object to the divine name with the band’s powerhouse make-up. Man Man’s Ryan Kattner (a.k.a. the eloquent and rowdy Honus Honus) [...]

In the residential area where I grew up the world of local teenaged bands was mediocre at best, consisting mostly of hilariously bad screamo/pop/punk and Blink-182 cover groups. But I was still happy to attend events like open mics or battles, to pay (an outrageous) $10 for a demo CD, to slap a bumper sticker [...]

Good music is like buses: you go through a slow patch and then a whole bunch comes along all at once. Of course, unlike buses, you don’t have to pick and choose which bits to take, so who’s complaining? Recently-featured D33J turned me on to his old school-mate Hank May, who performs as Rock Dove. The [...]

Buy the album from Amazon – Vinyl / MP3 / CD Tapes ‘n Tapes have had a strange journey so far – they began as a buzz band with hype pumped full of saline solution by Pitchfork and an appearance at SXSW. Then they signed to XL Recordings and released a second album, which didn’t [...]

OK boys and girls, quick musical history lesson coming up. Stay with me, it’s kinda fascinating. Why were singles traditionally 3 minutes long? Our dear friend Wikipedia says “A combination of technical factors combined with the 10 inch diameter of standard discs limited the duration of recording available on each side of a disc to [...]

Zane Lowe must have a pretty good life, huh? I remember watching him on MTV2 when I lived back in Scotland in the late 90′s and early 2000′s. He was the only guy that I knew of who had an unbridled and unmatched passion for music with impeccable taste, and he knew exactly what he [...]
