Canadian jazz/hip-hop experimentalists BADBADNOTGOOD follow up their debut with another maddeningly good album, this time featuring more of their own compositions. This is a good one. Really.
Drowner’s “Never Go Away” had me at the opening few bars; but as it progresses, Bouchard’s vocals hook you in before the driving power of the backing guitars hit you. Add to that my favourite tease where you think the track is over but you have plenty more good stuff to come and you find yourself with a track that I can’t get enough of!
Well, this is refreshing. It’s not exactly uncommon to find bands promising the world and failing to deliver, but it’s a crime We Are Losers certainly can’t be accused of. I mean, right there in the title: if they sucked you could hardly accuse them of trying to disguise the fact. They don’t suck though. They [...]
If The Cure did electro-pop, they might end up sounding something like Letting Up Despite Great Faults. Maybe Robert Smith could get a haircut while he was at it, although I guess that would just be a nicety. Also, I heard that that’s where he gets his power. He’s like a really miserable, weedy [...]
See Land is the side project of Doug Kaplan, electric guitarist for college/post/math/prog/heck, pretty much anything-rock outfit The Earth Is A Man. Where The Earth Is A Man demand repeat listens to fathom out the intertwining layers of their fascinating grooves, See Land’s self-titled debut needs to be heard over and over for just the [...]
This song is a burner, clocking in at over 8 minutes long, so you should scroll down and hit play first before you read any further (presuming you wanted to read anything anyway…it’s not terribly insightful just so you know). The Horrors’ latest album “Skying” has been extremely well received, including by ourselves, with the [...]
You haven’t heard from me about the band in Heaven for nigh-on nine months now, and you might not have even heard about them at all, so for those of you who fall int that category here’s what you need to know. A duo from Florida, they use their craft to bundle up snappy and [...]
Buy the album from Amazon – Vinyl / MP3 / CD There are a lot of people who still hate The Horrors for having the audacity to be lauded by the British music press before releasing a single note of music. When their first album dropped, it was subject to a wave of negativity that [...]
If, like me, you were barely old enough to string sentences together during the early nineties heyday of shoegaze, the genre’s ongoing revival is something of a blessing. On Volcano, a four-piece group from Tampere, Finland, provide the latest aural treat for revivalists. “New Blood”, their second EP released late last year, is a little [...]
If I had to limit myself to one observation about Soft then a) this would be a pretty short post, and b) I would say they sound British. While I’m willing to admit that I may be biased on this front, I just have to say kudos to them for that. There’s no point pussy-footing [...]
Breathe Out, label breathren of The Black Tambourines, are a London-based quartet inspired by the likes of J. Mascis and My Bloody Valentine. In truth it’s hard to pigeonhole Breathe Out since the five tracks on their upcoming EP, “Breathe Out,” jump between genres at will. Reviews have referred to their sound as psychedelia, punk, [...]
Exlovers are a 5-piece indie-pop group from London. I first heard the band when I downloaded their 2009 EP “You Forget So Easily” solely because I liked the album artwork (something I do very, very rarely). And boy, am I glad I liked that album artwork because the songs on that EP were enough for [...]
