“Attack on Memory” forgoes the “sophomore slump” and provides a valid argument for Cloud Nothings as purveyors of a rare brand of Rock with a capital R that exists beyond trends. This is one of the first truly great albums in a year that could be full of them.

I’ve dug through crates for months in hopes of finding a song like “Don’t Let Me Get Lonely.”

TweetShare Sigur Rós never needed to put out a live album. The raw power of their LPs is enough to rank them among the greatest bands of all-time. But they put out a live album anyway, and it’s an impressive one at that. Recorded over two nights at Alexandria Palace, “Inni” and its accompanying film (directed [...]

When you get something truly fresh and original, you know instantaneously. “A Hammer To The Camera Lens” is exactly that.

Snow Patrol aren’t quite under the spotlight anymore, but they’re not changing a thing. “Fallen Empires” is exactly what you’d expect it to be: upbeat radio-friendly songs, beautiful (but occasionally boring) ballads, and, above all, an hour of perfectly distilled Snow Patrol.

Bill Callahan sounds more like the omniscient narrator of The Big Lebowski than a standard singer songwriter on his latest album, another soothing slice of American rock.

“Jive With The Killer Instinct” is a scrappy EP that won’t be making anyone’s year end lists, but there are a couple of songs on here that you really shouldn’t miss.

TweetShare Boy oh boy, I sure love a quick announcement to release turnaround. Back on October 9th The Black Keys announced the name of their new album, “El Camino”, and revealed that it would be with us in less than two months. Two months! So much anticipation, so little time. But the public awareness that [...]

TweetShare The train-engine rolling sound of the Old 97′s doesn’t completely disappoint on their latest release “The Grand Theatre Vol. 2“. For those who appreciate Rhett Miller’s rambling poetry and fragmentary phrasing the album will be a welcome addition to the seemingly unending discography of this prolific band. I think the sign of a good songwriter [...]

Clocking in at just 27 minutes, with no songs over the 3-minute mark, “Mujeres” (the album) goes by incredibly fast, but will only be enjoyed by those looking for a rough ride.

TweetShare Will Oldham, better known as Bonnie “Prince” Billy, has a pretty well solidified spot in amongst today’s very best folk artists. He’s in with damned enviable company in Oberst, Waits, and Callahan to name a few. With obvious ease, Oldham has consistently churned out expertly crafted, honest, brooding music for more than a decade. [...]

TweetShare Buy the album: Amazon | iTunes | True Panther Records There are a lot of interesting stories to tell about Girls‘ frontman Christopher Owens, but nobody tells it better than he does. He recounts his history and bares his soul regularly in interviews and on his charming, open twitter account, but nowhere does the [...]

TweetShare Listen Before You Buy is always looking for more writers and contributors, we just don’t always make posts like this to advertise the fact (even though to some it seems like this is ALL we do). That being said, below are the positions we have available (currently non-paying, but with the prospect of making [...]

TweetShare If you follow the site on Twitter or Facebook you’ll know that lately I’ve been talking a lot about Dreamers Of The Ghetto, and how much I’ve fallen in love with their debut album “Enemy/Lover”. Back at the start of September we tagged them as Ones To Watch and as they get ready to [...]

TweetShare Dum Dum Girls’s new album “Only In Dreams” is being released next week and in anticipation of the release their label Sub Pop have put a stream of the album. The girls have already managed to enthrall us with the 2 or 3 cuts from the album we’ve heard already like “Bedroom Eyes”, and [...]
