Watch the new video for Niteflights’ song “I’m Glad You’re Here” below, taken from the EP “I’m Glad You’re Here”.
Never ones to rest on their laurels, the boys of London-based Niteflights are back with a new batch of joyful, roots-based power pop! After spending the majority of their Christmas “holidays” (their quotation marks) laying down demos in Scotland, they decided to share a belated Christmas present three-song EP “I’m Glad You’re Here” for all good boys and girls to enjoy…”like a sweet mixtape” (their quotes again).
Oh yeah, and did I mention that you can download the EP for FREE (free!) direct from their Soundcloud? Well, now I did, and you know how much free things rock hard.
Not only have they generously shared their latest tracks, but they also have a brand-spankin’ new video channeled via analog VHS edits, for title song, “I’m Glad You’re Here,” which you can check out below.
I personally am a huge fan of “Postcard” whose swaggering beat, layered under sweetly sticky synths and slowed down, feathery vocals reminds me of “His ‘N Hers” -era Pulp. There is a certain stripped-down, deconstruction of the standard Brit Pop mileau that strides down surprising twists and turns. While, “Emily (It’s Easy)” with its Casio-style icy sharp keyboard melodies, has a bit of a “China Girl”-era David Bowie sound to it. It’s not too often that I can happily hear me some Pulpesque or Bowie-tinged indie pop in the same three-song EP, and when that happens, well let’s just say (in the immortal words of Ice Cube) “today was a good day.”
